Editing and export

Modify the current layer and save applied edits as output files.

Start editing

  1. Select the target vector layer and enter edit mode.
  2. The initial mode selects features. Choose the feature before using move, vertex, or drawing tools.
  3. Work incrementally and inspect each change. Use Undo for mistakes and Redo to restore an undone operation.
  4. Apply the edits when finished. To discard them, choose Discard and review the confirmation.

Applying edits updates the current layer; it does not write the source file. Discarding unapplied edits restores the state from the start of the editing session. Ending an edit session is not the same as saving a file.

Export a file

  1. After applying edits, confirm the target layer and open the output menu.
  2. Select GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoPackage, KML, or SJS.
  3. Check the destination and filename in the save dialog. A new filename makes comparison with the original easier.
  4. If asked to overwrite, verify the affected file. Cancel and rename the output when uncertain.
  5. Wait for success, reopen the output, and inspect its location, records, fields, and text encoding.

Export may require an account with the appropriate permission. Follow any account or component messages shown by the application. Changing a filename extension does not convert an unsupported format.

Deliver complete results

Deliver Shapefile companion files together. Agree on a format with the recipient: GeoJSON, GeoPackage, and KML have different capabilities. Check mixed geometries, field types, and encoding by reopening the result.

For repeatable workflows, use the shared Script API, which documents platform differences alongside the common interfaces.
