Analysis and quality checks

Create buffers and overlay results, then inspect polygon quality.

Create a buffer

  1. Open Analysis → Buffer and verify the input layer.
  2. Enter a distance in metres, greater than 0 and no more than 100000. Line data offers round or flat end caps.
  3. Choose all features or the current attribute search results. Enable dissolving to combine overlapping buffers into one feature.
  4. Set the result name and run. Follow progress in the status bar, then locate the new polygon layer.

If some features were skipped, inspect the count and source data. Partial success does not mean every feature was processed.

Choose an overlay operation

Open Analysis → Overlay and check the input and other participating layer.

OperationResult and scope
IntersectKeep input polygon areas inside the overlay polygons, using input attributes
EraseRemove input polygon areas inside the overlay polygons
SplitDivide input polygons into inside and outside portions using overlay boundaries
Dissolve adjacent polygonsCombine adjacent or overlapping polygons in one layer; retain attributes from the first polygon in each group
Merge layersPut features from two vector layers into a new layer with the union of their fields; geometries are not dissolved

Intersect, erase, split, and dissolve require polygon layers. For empty results, check spatial overlap, the operation, and the order of inputs.

Check and repair topology

Open Analysis → Topology check, select a polygon layer, choose overlap, gap, self-intersection, or spike checks, and set thresholds. Optionally limit the scope to attribute search results, then run.

The right panel lists issues. Click an item to locate and select the affected feature. At most 5000 issues are displayed; visible list length alone is not a complete issue count. Review issues against business boundaries before repairing by category. Repairs reuse the check parameters and create a new layer. Check the repaired result again and export it.

Save results

These analysis, processing, and repair operations produce new layers without changing the original layer. Long tasks can be cancelled in the status bar. Download completed results using Editing and export; browser workspace storage is not a long-term backup.
