Layers and attributes
Locate your data
After opening files, select a layer in the left panel and use its locate control to view the extent. The switch controls visibility. The More menu and context menu provide the same layer operations.
The toolbar follows the current object. Vector layers expose attributes, editing, styling, quality checks, processing, and export. Imagery, online sources, and basemaps have different tools. Check the layer name before acting.
Inspect and search attributes
- Select a vector layer and open its attribute table.
- Browse records and narrow them with search. Confirm the business meaning of fields and coded values.
- To process only search results, explicitly select that scope in the buffer, quality-check, or export dialog.
Attribute search results and map selections are different scopes. Buffering and export offer all features or the current attribute search results; highlighting on the map does not define the output scope.
Imagery and coordinate systems
Include matching companion files when opening imagery. Use the identify tool on imagery to inspect pixel information. If vector data is misplaced, check the original coordinate system and, when needed, reread the layer through its coordinate-system control. Assigning the source system interprets existing coordinates; choosing an export system transforms the result.
